The Supported Independent Living Program (SILP)

The Supported Independent Living Program (SILP) at SSILC has existed since 2005 and has continued to expand, supporting more individuals each year. The program operates by pairing consumers with support workers to guide the consumer on independent living skills.  Pivotal to the SILP at SSILC is that the direction of the program is mandated by the consumer as opposed to the support workers.

SILP workers provide resources and practical supports to individuals who are making the transition to an independent life in the community. Upon request they may provide support in areas determined by the consumer or in some of the following areas:

  • Financial Management
  • Home Management
  • Community Resource Awareness
  • Meal Planning
  • Peer Support
  • Leisure Activities
  • Encouragement of Choice
