Success story for Natalie

Natalie was referred to SSILC and immediately impressed the facilitators with her interpersonal skills. She has been actively involved in her one-to-one meetings with her facilitator as well as in SSILC classes. She stated that her disabilities impacted her so much that she did not think she had a chance in life. Now she is extremely proud of the changes that she has made and could not love the life she is living more.

Natalie’s primary goal is to get her GED or any type of schooling. She is interested in the trades and in particular welding. We called SPT to inquire about the WITT for the Women in Trades Exploratory (WITT-1600) program. Natalie was put on the waiting list as the class was full. Then we were notified that a spot was available in the class (Saturdays and Sundays from April 18 – May 3, 2026). Each day she will have the opportunity to do a brief exploration of a new career pathway. Programs offered are as follows: Autobody, Building Systems Technician, Electrical, Welding, and Millwright.

We explored options for her to go to school. She opted for an intake with the Learning Disability Association. She starts class with LDAS on May 5^th following the WITT Program. She will work towards her GED and hopefully get a Psychoeducational Assessment for a learning disability.

Natalie was referred to the SSILC Business of Living Class and worked with the facilitator on financial management. She completed the SSILC Interview Skills class and said, it, “Rewrote her thought process of how to answer interview questions.” She also completed the SSILC Employability Skills Class (ColourSpectrums).

Natalie and her employment facilitator, worked together on a resume. She got a part time cleaning job with E & M Holdings starting on Feb 27-26. She is a key holder, and her duties include sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning toilets, polishing glass, navigating the alarm system, emptying garbage, dusting and vacuuming, cleaning desks and kitchen areas. The hours of employment work well with her further education plans.
